Spanish LiteracyProfessional Learning

Our goal at Intelexia is to give teachers and schools enduring literacy instruction skills. Aprendo Leyendo’s Spanish teacher professional development provides educators with ongoing training and continuous support. Designed for new and experienced teachers, our training courses help teachers implement practical, research-based strategies and materials into their classroom practice. Training is delivered fully in Spanish and is available for individuals and in group models for districts, schools, and teachers. Through our suite of training courses, workshops, monthly office hours, and coaching sessions, we empower teachers to increase their effectiveness so their students meet the desired Spanish literacy outcomes.

OverviewProfessional Learning

At Intelexia, we know that a complete support system for building foundational Spanish literacy includes varied and continuous support for teacher professional development. Through Aprendo Leyendo, Spanish literacy teachers have access to expert support and training opportunities that will help them enhance student learning and use clear and accessible assessments.

Our initial Professional Development training course focuses on multisensory techniques for teaching reading, spelling, and handwriting in the primary grades for beginning learners. Topics include research-based instructional practices on developing accurate decoding and fluent reading through direct explicit instruction, building vocabulary and comprehension, lesson planning, and assessments.

Courses are taught in Spanish by our Master Teachers, who have years of experience mentoring and coaching teachers, as well as implementing Aprendo Leyendo in public and independent schools.

Educators learn our research-based techniques for teaching Spanish reading, spelling, vocabulary, syntax, morphology, and modeling reading comprehension strategies. Research proves our methods are effective for both native speakers and second language learners.

Our workshops are small courses on specific topics, such as proficiency tests, differentiating instruction, and reading comprehension.

Our Master Teachers hold monthly virtual office hours during which  educators can ask questions, review pacing, or address challenges. Teachers and administrators also have ongoing access to individual consultation sessions that provide steady guidance whenever new needs arise.

Schools receive visits from an Aprendo Leyendo coach. Visits are all tailored to each school’s need.

Coaching is offered in two unique models: Coaching Teachers and Coaching Coaches.  For teachers, coaching sessions build on a teacher’s own classroom reality, using their teaching experience as the starting point to work with Aprendo Leyendo’s experts to refine lessons, adapt strategies, and strengthen literacy instruction with confidence. Coaching visits can be scheduled as in-person visits or virtual sessions.

Coaching Coaches is Aprendo Leyendo’s year-long intensive coaching program. It is designed to support your school’s literacy coaches in deepening their understanding of the Aprendo eyendo curriculum, strengthening practices for improved student outcomes, and preparing the literacy coach to take over the role of Aprendo Leyendo coach for the school or district. The Aprendo Leyendo Difference

Schools and educators need professional development that leads to measurable change in Spanish reading instruction and reading mastery. Too often, professional learning feels disconnected from daily classroom needs or fades once the session ends.

Aprendo Leyendo bridges that gap by giving teachers and instructional coaches practical evidence-based strategies supported by coaching and collaboration throughout the year.

The Aprendo LeyendoProfessional Learning Journey

Professional growth is most effective when it’s continuous and supported. Our approach follows a clear trajectory that ensures teachers don’t just receive information; instead, they develop the confidence and consistency to transform their instruction.

Learn

Complete the initial two-part Professional Development training course during the school year or over the summer. The first part of the Aprendo Leyendo course introduces research-based strategies for Spanish reading instruction, from phonemic awareness to modeling developing reading comprehension strategies.

Apply

After you learn our methods and have access to our materials, the second part of our hands-on training course and subsequent optional workshops turn theory into practice with opportunities for lesson planning, assessment, and activities for skill-based grouping fluency-building. These sessions encourage participants to actively engage, ensuring strategies are applied directly during training and will transfer smoothly into teachers’ daily instruction.

Sustain

Professional learning doesn’t stop after the coursework. Ongoing support sessions, coaching, and monthly office hours help teachers continue to improve their instruction and dive deeper into the fundamentals of Spanish structured literacy instruction throughout the school year. Teachers work one-on-one or in small groups with Master Teachers on reading comprehension, spelling, pacing, grouping, assessments, or differentiating instruction.

How is Aprendo Leyendo implemented in schools?
