Research-based

Aprendo Leyendo materials and lessons incorporate decades of reading research. Our Spanish literacy program incorporates research practices recommended by the National Panel for Multilingual Learners and proven methodologies including the Orton–Gillingham approach

Our multisensory reading program combines decodable texts with direct, explicit instruction in phonics, decoding, word recognition, vocabulary, spelling, handwriting, fluency, phonemic awareness, and comprehension strategies. This cohesive, structured approach is practical for teachers to implement and for students to master. Strategies are taught simultaneously in integrated lessons, so each skill reinforces the others.

Direct and Differentiated Instruction

Aprendo Leyendo’s instructional design creates a continual feedback loop for intentional, comprehensive Spanish literacy instruction: students learn curricula under teacher supervision and receive immediate feedback on their responses; teachers model appropriate responses and track student progress. This direct instruction model allows for differentiated instruction, as teachers can implement needed scaffolding, reinforcement, or additional time on skills based on their assessments of student progress through the instructional sequence. As a result, the Aprendo Leyendo program can be used within the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework in bilingual and dual-language classrooms across tiers, since the pace and dosage amounts are adjusted to meet all students’ needs.
